Misfortune's Fortune -- Chapter 5

Miyu woke up, hours later, head on the table and screaming. She quickly got a hold of herself- shutting her mouth and running two shaking hands through her hair as she bit her lip- trying hard to hold back tears. I… haven’t had that dream in a while… She suddenly shook her head. No- not a dream- a nightmare. She gently rested her head back on the table- shaking hands still holding her head as she ran through the dream again, remembering the differences from usual.
She had walked into her apartment, the whole area dark when someone had called for her. She looked up and around into the darkness- able to see only bits of things, despite having good night vision. She called out, asking who was there and the kitchen light flipped on, causing Miyu to walk towards it, like a moth to a flame. She stopped, blinking in the doorway at the bright light as a voice spoke, “Hello Miyuki… I found you.” Miyu blinked furiously before she realized who it was, a look of horror coming across her face.
“Nick…” Her voice was only a whisper and the tall, blood man smiled widely at her, looking half-predatory with his dark green eyes.
“Yes- I’m back Miyu… aren’t you happy?” Nick started towards her, a long, gleaming silver object in hand and Miyu moved her eyes to it- eyes widening as she saw the red already on it. “We can start right where we left off…” Miyu’s body froze as she saw someone’s arm laying on the ground, peeking out from behind a cabinet. Her eyes focused on the bracelet on the arm, realizing that she recognized it. She took a step forward, disregarding her own safety as the blood became apparent on and around the person’s arm.
“Gackt!” She screamed as Nick lifted the knife up to do damage to her.
“Right where we left off love…”
Miyu quietly lifted her head from the table- tears streaming down her face now. No one else has ever been involved… Why Gackt out of everyone? She shivered before looking at the table, seeing that a couple of the printed out pages had been bent and were partially wet from her tears. Miyu quietly wiped her face and got to her feet- her whole body still shaking with the memory of the dream. She still had to go to work today and it was 6am already.
Twenty minutes later, Miyu was running out the door- all of her papers in a briefcase except for the large piece of paper that she carried in its own protector. She quickly locked the door behind her and took off running- briefcase in one hand, portfolio protector under that arm and a bag in her other hand. She nearly tripped down the stairs but kept going down onto the street, dodging through the crowds and to the subway entrance, jogging down the stairs and barely squeezing onto the train. She stood with her eyes staring at the ground with the large portfolio in front of her and bag over the same arm that she held her briefcase in. She got off two stops later after being jostled around a bit and ran up to the street, breathing heavily and shaking again. I hate claustrophobia… She quickly jogged down the street and quickly went inside a large building.
“Hello- been a while Alkit-san…” The secretary greeted and Miyu gave a weak smile in return.
“Yes, hello.” She quickly ran to catch the elevator- knowing that it probably hadn’t gotten out to everyone that she’d been in the hospital. She kept her eyes shut on the ride up to the 8th floor, quickly getting off and taking a few deep breaths as her co-worker shook her head at her, making Miyu respond with a weak smile again.
“So… who was it?” The light brown haired woman asked, looking back at her computer. Miyu paled slightly as she bit her lip- carefully walking over.
“Someone really important but I didn’t know until afterwards, Inada-san.” Kyoko Inada raised an eyebrow slightly over one brown eye as she watched her computer screen impassively.
“Oh really?” Miyu gave a nod before smiling.
“Thanks for sending me that e-mail, I don’t know what I’d do without you…” Miyu moved to go down the hallway.
“I don’t know what you’d do either…” Kyoko replied honestly and Miyu nodded slightly as she took her things down the hall to her workstation. She quickly placed her papers messily out onto the table along with the large sheet of paper- quickly working a bit before a voice called for her.
“Alkit-san!” She quickly rushed down the hall to her boss’s office, quickly moving to enter.
“Yes sir?” Her boss eyed her derisively.
“I hope you realize that you aren’t getting any more sick days.” Miyu nodded, biting her lip. “I do expect full workweeks now as well… possibly Saturdays to make up the work.” Miyu gave another nod- doing her best to hide her displeasure at that, despite the love she had for her work. Besides- she couldn’t afford losing her job now.
“Yes sir. I promise I’ll work hard.” There was a slight pause as Tekeshi considered her before he nodded.
“All right.” He shooed her away- turning back towards his computer. “You should have that sketch done by Wednesday still.”
“Yes sir…” Miyu left quietly and walked back down the hallway to her work station- seething with anger. She sat quiet for a few minutes before forcing herself back to drawing on a few different, small pieces of paper. Details for the man’s sword slowly appeared on one page, on another- details for his gauntlets, and so on.
By the time lunch came around- Miyu had everything but the man himself planned out. Miyu stared blankly at the page in front of her- at a loss of what to do now. She took a deep breath, moving her chair back as she stretched a little, eyes closed lightly. She opened her eyes and froze- staring at Kyoko who had seemed to appear magically behind her. The other woman walked over and leaned close.
“You never said it was Gackt Camui, Alkit-san.” The darker haired woman nearly hissed.
“W-what?” Miyu stuttered, eyes growing wide and Kyoko smiled half evilly.
“Oh! You didn’t know he was taking you to lunch? Though he’s probably being mobbed by his fangirls right now.” Miyu had blushed a bright red while paling almost at the same time- leaving her skin an odd red-pink with hints of green. Kyoko patted her head, “Good luck to you.” The other designer left, leaving Miyu in a state of shock and partial horror. “He’s waiting…” Miyu quietly forced herself to her feet, quickly packing all her things away and grabbing her extra bag before starting away down the hall. She could spot the small gaggle of the few girls in the workplace- almost all of them secretaries or receptionists- gathered around a tall man.
“Ah Mi-chan!” Gackt called to her- seemingly greatly annoyed and a bit fearful of the group around him. All eyes turned to focus on Miyu with a half glare. Gackt quickly escaped from the group and caught Miyu’s arm as she attempted to reply and failed as he began pulling her along.
The two were half down the hallway before she managed a decent reply. “Hello to you too Gackt-san…”
“Gacchan.” Gackt corrected without looking. “That’s also very late Mi-chan. It would’ve been polite when I started pulling you along but it’s all right.”
“Gomen-nasai, Gackt-san.” Miyu apologized as she saw Kyoko looking over the edge of her cubicle at her and Gackt.
“Gacchan.” Gackt corrected as he hit the button to go down on the elevator. Miyu bit her lip and didn’t reply for a second.
“Where are you taking me?” Miyu asked- more focused on the elevator doors now.
“I’m kidnapping you again… and lunch of course.” Gackt replied with a smirk and Miyu turned to stare at him in horror.
“No! I’ve got work- you can’t kidnap me!” Miyu protested- attempting to yank her arm from his grip, using her other hand to help.
“Only for lunch then.” Gackt had moved his hand to hers- grabbing her other and holding it up in the air as well. Miyu stared up into his eyes for a second before giving a nod and Gackt returned a blinding smile before the elevator opened. Gackt quickly pulled her on- still holding tight to her one hand. Miyu nearly jumped when he rubbed at her hand.
 “What are you-”
“There’s some ink on your hand.” Gackt blinked innocently at her, making Miyu flush red again as the elevator doors closed. Someone’s laughter echoed and Miyu scowled at the door.
“Shut the hell up Kyoko!” Miyu suddenly glanced at Gackt and paled. “Ah… sorry Gackt-san.”
“Gacchan. It’s okay Mi-chan.” The soloist looked curiously up towards where he’d heard Kyoko as the elevator started down. “Is that your only friend that didn’t jump me?” Miyu paused and blinked at him.
“Um… I don’t know… probably- considering she came and got me…” Miyu blinked up as well at where the voice had been.
“That was very nice of her…” Gackt commented quietly.
“Yes it was…” Miyu replied in the same tone before blushing slightly as Gackt pulled her out of the elevator on the first floor. She quickly made herself walk faster to keep up with him. “I… never mind.” Miyu shook her head and Gackt gave her a curious look.
“What is it?” Miyu bit her lip as a few people stared at the two exiting the building.
“I just wasn’t aware you were picking me up for lunch…” Miyu claimed as she squinted against the bright outside light.
“I know… I apologize for that but I wasn’t aware that I would have lunch free…” Gackt paused as he considered both Miyu and his sunglasses for a second before gently putting his on Miyu and pulling her along again. Miyu promptly turned a bright red.
“Gackt-san- you don’t have to- I’ll be fine- I walked he-”
“Gacchan and I have another pair in my car.” Gackt claimed, now squinting against the bright sun.
 “But Gackt-san-”
 “Gacchan.”
“-you need them now- I can deal-” Miyu had taken the sunglasses off and was attempting to give them back.
“I’ll be fine.” Gackt replied, pushing the glasses back towards Miyu.
 “Gackt-san!”
“Gacchan and no Mi-chan- you wear them.”
“No- you should be wearing them!” Miyu shoved the sunglasses back towards him and they stopped walking- staring at each other.
“Then neither of us will wear them.” Gackt smirked and started pulling her along again as she blinked at him in shock. She quickly scowled- glaring at the soloist’s back as she held the sunglasses in her other hand.
“Hmph- then we won’t.” They walked silently to Gackt’s car- Miyu blinking at it before refocusing a glare on the soloist as he opened the door and she quickly got in. Gackt got in the other side, reached over, and pulled a second set of sunglasses from the glove compartment.
“Happy?” He asked as he put them on. Miyu nodded with a slight smile but made no move to put Gackt’s original sunglasses on. Gackt quickly reached over and pulled the sunglasses from Miyu before gently placing them on her. Miyu squirmed slightly with an extremely soft whimper and Gackt paused- watching her.
 “Gackt-san…” Miyu murmured out.
“I apologize for Wednesday’s incident with the MP3 player Mi-chan…” Gackt spoke quietly as he ran his thumb across her cheek.
“I-It’s okay…” Miyu stared back at him before he smiled softly and pulled away. Miyu quickly remembered to breathe again before the car roared to life and down the road. Miyu found herself clutching onto Gackt’s arm again- having failed to put her seatbelt on earlier.
“You’re all right…” Gackt said, sounding amused, and Miyu let him go long enough to get her seatbelt on. She could see the soloist frowning and blinked for a second.
“Are you all right?” Gackt gave a nod after a slight flush came to his face. Miyu bit at her lip for a second with a worried expression until Gackt gave her a soft smile.
“I’m fine Mi-chan.” Miyu paused before giving a nod- smiling slightly in return. Her dream suddenly came to mind and her smile became forced- face paling slightly as she looked out the windshield. “Mi-chan…?” Miyu blinked in slight surprise over at the soloist’s nervous sounding voice.
“Yes Gackt-san?” Miyu replied and Gackt frowned.
“Gacchan.” He corrected before his concerned look took his face back over. “You look tired- did you not sleep well?” Miyu bit her lip out of his sight for a second.
“I just got to sleep late Gackt-san- I’m fine.” Miyu responded and Gackt smiled before frowning.
 “Gacchan.” He corrected.
 “No Gackt-san.” Miyu quickly replied.
“Gacchan.” Gackt corrected again with a grin- causing Miyu to scowl.
 “No Gackt-san.”
“Gacchan.” Gackt smiled at her as he brought the car to a stop for a second. Miyu gave a dark scowl in return.
“No Gackt-san.” Miyu returned again as Gackt parked.
“Gacchan or you don’t get lunch.” Gackt grinned widely before Miyu returned it.
“Fine- take me back, Gackt-san.” Gackt blinked in surprise before regaining his composure.
“Gacchan and no- we can just sit here.” Gackt quickly smirked again and it was Miyu’s turn to blink in surprise.
 “I can walk back Gackt-san.”
“Gacchan- and I can keep you locked in here.” To prove his point, he hit the door lock button and Miyu’s eyes widened.
“You’d make me lose my job over this?!” Miyu nearly shouted and Gackt frowned.
“No- you’d just be slightly late…” Gackt claimed and Miyu ran a hand through her hair.
“And that would make me lose my job- I’ve already missed 3 weeks because I have no one here to tell anyone if something goes wrong…” Miyu said and Gackt paused before nodding.
“All right…” Gackt smiled at her, “We’re still having lunch…” Miyu gave a soft smile before nodding- smile gone.
“All right…” She quietly unlocked the door and got out, Gackt quickly repeating her actions before the soloist locked the car.
“This way.” Gackt quickly pulled Miyu along again until the woman got her footing- walking alongside him. He let go of her arm only to entwine his fingers with hers. Miyu turned a bright red and stammered for a couple of seconds before managing out something actually intelligible.
“Gackt-san…” Gackt gave her a soft smile as he squeezed her hand softly.
“Gacchan.” Miyu stared at him as her head bobbed softly up and down. Gackt gently led her into a nearby restaurant before letting go of her hand. “Stay here for a second.” Miyu blinked as the soloist disappeared from sight around a corner. The woman bit her lip for a second as she nervously crossed one arm over her chest- fingers loose on her other arm.
“May I seat you?” A female voice asked and Miyu blinked at them before blushing slightly.
“Ah- not right now… I’m waiting on… someone.” Miyu bit her lip again as the waitress smiled almost half maliciously.
“Gackt-san asked me to seat you…” She claimed and Miyu paused before smiling softly- shaking her head.
“I think I’ll wait here- thank you though.” The waitress scowled- quickly turning and walking away. Miyu bit at her lip again- nervousness taking over her features before Gackt came back- the soloist gently taking her arm and leading her towards a table nearby.
“The manager said that I should simply get a table for us and he’d hurry with the orders.” Miyu blinked in slightly shock as she sat in the seat Gackt pulled out for her.
“A-Arigatou-gozaimasu…” Miyu quietly managed out and Gackt smiled slightly.
“You’re welcome Mi-chan.” He pauses as he took his seat. “Are you all right?” Miyu paused a while before nodding.
“Yes Gackt-san- I’m fine.” Miyu managed a smile in spite of her nervousness. I think that woman was going to attempt to kill me… or at least get rid of me… Miyu blinked up as a plate was placed in front of her and saw Gackt smiling at her again before she looked at the person placing the plate down. Miyu paled- it was the woman who had attempted to lead her away.
“Hm… it looks like Mi-chan got mine…” Gackt quickly switched the plates- making the waitress pale this time.
“Oh no Gackt-san, that dish is hers- I promise…” The waitress claimed and Gackt shook his head.
“No- I’m sure it’s mine…” Gackt replied before quickly getting a bite of it. The waitress backed away as Gackt quietly ate the bite of curry before blinking for a second.
“Gackt-san… are you okay?” Miyu asked nervously.
“Gacchan- and this is really good.” Gackt smiled at her and Miyu paused before smiling in return softly- moving to get a bite of her meal. Miyu kept smiling softly but felt a bit like frowning instead at her slightly tasteless meal. “Is something the matter Mi-chan?” Miyu quickly shook her head.
“Nothing- it’s fine.” Miyu gave a slight protest when Gackt stole a bite from her plate and the woman returned the favor- making Gackt chuckle slightly. Gackt gave a frown as he tasted Miyu’s curry.
“Hm… not really fine…” Gackt muttered before Miyu interrupted.
“That is really good!” Miyu blushed at her soft exclamation, making Gackt blink.
“Oh- so you like eating hot things?” Miyu blushed again for a second before nodding.
“Yeah- a bit…” Gackt gently pushed his plate a bit forward- gesturing for her to eat a bit of it as well
“You can have some if you wish Mi-chan…” Miyu stared at him for a while- confused about it as a blush rose high in her face.
“Ga-Gackt-san…” Miyu shook her head, still blushing.
“Gacchan- I don’t mind… please Mi-chan?” Miyu found herself getting a bite off his plate- unable to resist the soloist’s please. Gackt smiled softly, quickly getting another bite as well, the two of them eating almost silently. Gackt gave another slight smile as they finished and the soloist glanced around before the waitress came over with the check- the woman looking to be in slight shock. “Thank you…” After paying- he quietly got to his feet and pulled Miyu along, starting for the door.
“What about the change?” Miyu asked in slight confusion and Gackt shook his head slightly.
“It’s all right- they can keep it…” He quietly led her out and towards his car- letting her get in as he shut the door softly and walked around to get in the driver’s side and started the car up. Miyu had all ready clicked her seat belt into place as Gackt took off- sending the car almost hurtling down the road before Miyu spoke.
“Gacchan- are you all right?” Gackt frowned lightly as Miyu bit her lip, ah fuck… it slipped…
“Gacchan and she was trying to kill you… either that or majorly embarrass you…” Miyu gave a nod.
“I know…” Miyu replied calmly, a slight smile on her face.
“I hate that… even if a person they admire is happy- they want to ruin it so that they can ‘try’ to be happy with the one they admire…” Gackt continued frowning before something seemed to dawn on him. “…Mi-chan, did you use my nickname?”
“No Gackt-san.” Miyu replied with a half smile still as she glanced out the window. There was a long pause.
“I’m sure you used it…” Was the soloist’s reply.
“You corrected me, did you not?” Miyu responded innocently- blinking at Gackt. The soloist stopped in thought- still driving as he bit at his lip. The car fell silent, causing Miyu to move nervously in her seat before they came to a stop outside her work. “Ah…th-thank you for taking me out Gackt-san…” Miyu quietly bit at her lip for a second as she moved to leave the car. She had the door open and a foot on the ground when Gackt grabbed a hold of her arm- making Miyu look at him.
“Please don’t ever lie to me Mi-chan…” He spoke quietly as his eyes almost pierced into hers and Miyu gave a nod. Gackt let go of her arm and Miyu quickly got out- closing the door gently behind herself. The soloist drove away with a slight wave as Miyu quickly headed towards the door of her building. The woman quickly went inside- ignoring all glares from any other female co-workers- and the gay man who worked on the fifth floor- to get onto the elevator.
